BrisbaneDesignScape: Centrepiece Lighting Sculpture

2022
Freelance Design Project

The hosts of BrisbaneDesignScape reached out and offered me the opportunity to design and fabricate the centrepiece in the main hall of the design exhibition. The sculpture needed to resemble the Brisbane Story Bridge, and I was given free range on style, materials and manufacturing methods. It also needed to be completed in 3 days. These sort of projects can often take several months, so this posed a unique challenge.

On the 3rd day, I had produced a 6m sculpture of my own interpretation of the iconic Brisbane Story bridge, mostly comprised of laser cut sheet metal.

This project put my design instincts and fabrication skills to the test. There was no time for prototypes or test runs, I had to trust in my knowledge and skills as a designer.
